This guy is the winner of the competition, "The Voice" -- a show that convinced me to NOT watch American Idol again. Both of these songs he covers are special favorites of mine - the voice is exclusively his. Smile.

Tune In Friday
One of my favorite songs from the 90's... heard it as elevator music today. Sheesh!
Here's the original, with Bob Dylan's kid Jakob and the Wallflowers. 6th Avenue Heartache...
Sirens ring, the shots ring out
Here's the original, with Bob Dylan's kid Jakob and the Wallflowers. 6th Avenue Heartache...
Sirens ring, the shots ring out
A stranger cries, screams out loud
I had my world strapped against my back
I held my hands, never knew how to act
Chorus:And the same black line that was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it's drawn me in
6th Avenue heartache
Below me was a homeless man
I'm singin' songs I knew complete
On the steps alone, his guitar in hand
It's fifty years, stood where he stands
Now walkin' home on those streets
The river winds move my feet
Subway steam, like silhouettes in dreams
They stood by me, just like moonbeams
Look out the window, down upon that street
And gone like a midnight was that man
But I see his six strings laid against that wall
And all his things, they all look so small
I got my fingers crossed on a shooting star
Just like me-just moved on
Never a number one hit, 6th Avenue Heartache took a back seat to "One Headlight" from the 1996 blockbuster album by the Wallflowers. My passion for this band was shared by my nephew, Carl. 28 years divided us, but we were crazy about the band. They're still kickin' around....

Tune In Friday - "Falling Slowly"
From a little known British film of 2007 came the Oscar-winning song in 2008 "Falling Slowly". The song is a two part love song featured in the film "Once". It garnered some appeal when 2009 American Idol Winner Kris Allen sang it, but, prodded to sing it by the 2010 #2 Finalist, Crystal Bowersox, the final 2010 winner of American Idol, Lee DeWyze displayed considerable chops as part of the duo.
Kelly and I "liveblogged" American Idol by text this year. We had fun. I think we would have both preferred Crystal to win, but were content with the outcome. Kelly... if you see this, in newer videos I note that Crystal has had those teeth repaired!
Enjoy... "Falling Slowly" (written by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova)
Falling Slowly
I don't know you but I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me and always fool me
And I can't react
You have suffered enough and what with yourself
It's time that you won
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time, raise your hopeful voice
You had the choice, you've made it now
Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'll paint it black
Games that never amount
To more than themselves
Will play themselves out
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time, raise your hopeful voice
You had the choice, you've made it now

Making a Comeback
I hope to make my blogging comeback in July. June has been a hard and harsh month, and I'm looking forward to some renewal and some time back for me. A first stop was Sarah McLachlan's new CD... "Laws of Illusion". Here's a masterful cut from that for
TUNE IN FRIDAY
FORGIVENESS
~by Sarah McLachlan
Loving lying enemy
I have seen your face before
Never thought again I’d see
Didn’t want to anymore
I remember your loving eyes
And the moonlit kiss
The evening lullabies I will truly miss
Through the years we had it all
Midnight whispers, the midday calls
This house of cards, it had to fall
And you ask for forgiveness
You’re asking too much
I have sheltered my heart in a place you can’t touch
Don’t believe when you tell me your love is real
Because you don’t know much about heaven boy
If you have to hurt to feel
Every time I see you
I can’t help but look away
All along I had believed everything you’d say
When I look now I know I’ve seen your face before
Don’t want your deceiving smile
Standing at my door
And I don’t care what people say
I’m ready now to face this day
And you ask for forgiveness
You’re asking too much
I have sheltered my heart in a place you can’t touch
Don’t believe when you tell me your love is real
Because you don’t know much about heaven boy
If you have to hurt to feel
Because you don’t know much about heaven boy
if you have to hurt
And you ask for forgiveness
You’re asking too much
I have sheltered my heart in a place you can’t touch
Don’t believe when you tell me your love is real
Because you don’t know much about heaven boy
If you have to hurt to feel

My mistake... it doesn't come any better than THIS
- Amazing videos are here
A while back I posted a phenomenal version of "Stand by Me" that combined the skills of U2 and the Boss. While searching my favorites for it, I came across THIS version, by talented videographer, David Johnson. Enjoy a trip around the world, or a little reminiscing walk down the streets of N'awlins with this uplifting video.
