Some Stuff About Me:

I'm a Minnesota Girl, living in the south. I tell my friends I try not to talk and think like a Yankee, but sometimes I slip up!

Sunrise and Sunset

Ribbon clouds, ready
To disappear as dawn lights
Early morning sky.

Bands of pastel hue
Dance on the horizon when
Night passes to day.

The world bursts forth in eager anticipation.

Ah! The shore at dusk
Sweetened with the magic
Of God's paintbrush.

Sunset on a hill
Colored sky overlooks
Deepening twilight.

The day retires slowly, drawing us into sleep.

POEMS ABOUT... WHAT ELSE?? BOOKS

FreeVerse

There is nothing quite so evocative, for me, as poetry written about books and the love of books. Here's a favorite, and also a haiku that I wrote about books.

THE BOOKSTALL

Just looking at them
I grow greedy, as if they were
freshly baked loaves
waiting on their shelves
to be broken open---that one
and that---and I make my choice
in a mood of exalted luck,
browsing among them
like a cow in sweetest pasture.

For life is continuous
as long as they wait
to be read---these inked paths
opening into the future, page
after page, every book
its own receding horizon,
And I hold them, one in each hand,
a curious ballast weighting me
here to the earth.
