Poems that speak to your own life....

About Living Alone...from the 37 Days Blog

Love After Love

The time will come

when, with elation

you will greet yourself arriving

at your own door, in your own mirror

and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.

Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart

to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.

Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the

photographs, the desperate notes,

peel your own image from the mirror.

Sit. Feast on your life.

You know, I am loving all this poetry you've all been exposing me to lately! I hope it doesn't stop when National Poetry Month ends.

As much as I love reading it, I really wish I could write it, too. I use to think there was a novel in me somewhere, trying to escape. At this point I'd settle for some good poetry, LOL.

I enjoyed my recent attempt with Haiku. Ha! Maybe I should move on to bigger and better things!

I enjoyed your Haiku, too! I'm also enjoying all the poetry. Like you, I've discovered some wonderful new poets and revisited some old favs.

I've also revisited my own. I'll be glad when I have the time to stop, or slow down, reflect and do some more writing. Right now life is too chaotic and too full of day to day turmoil for me to capture anything.

For me, I do better in reflection. At the moment life is too in my face. :)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this poem and it's by the amazing Nobel Prize winning poet, DEREK WALCOTT, and I highly recommend his books. I memorized this poem a long time ago and it's one of my top ten favorites.

I better run go tell Patti who the author is! LOL! Here's a wonderful reading of it at YouTube:

Marion - thanks so much for supplying the author! I'll put it in my blog. I'll need to find more of him.

Pam- You hit the nail on the head. Poetry is hard to write when life is "in your face". So much comes swiftly when you have a chance to sit and reflect. I hope you have that kind of chance, soon.
